Collection - Beaubnana
Beaubnana is an independent brand focused on fashionable handmade crochet, founded in 2014 by the designers sister & brother Banana and Xiao Huang.
The brand uses the traditional technique Chaoshan tonghua* as a starting point, incorporating modern design language to infuse the intangible cultural heritage of the designers' hometown with vitality. Through bold colour combinations and distinctive shapes, it transforms shapeless ideas into wearable art. Beaubnana encourages everyone to be bold, confident, and express themselves freely.
Therefore, the designers draw inspiration from the universe and capture the essence of their emotions, using imaginative concepts to endow their works with a unique personality, and employing colours to echo emotions.
Beaubnana respects nature and values handmade craftsmanship. The brand insists on using custom-made cotton yarns that are dyed environmentally friendly and free of chemicals. The packaging of each piece of Beaubnana's carries the signature of the artisan, demonstrating respect for artisans and conveying the warmth of handmade works. The brand dedicates to showcasing the gentle yet tenacious image of women through the works.
*Chaoshan tonghua, also called shougouhua, is a traditional crochet technique from the Chaoshan region of China.
Beaubnana Women's Team, composed of 35 aunties from Qiuxi Village, is responsible for the craftsmanship of Beaubnana's crochet products. For Beaubnana, crochet is not only the intangible cultural heritage of their hometown and the livelihood of the previous generation but also a source of enjoyment since childhood. Therefore, Beaubnana also hopes that the women who stay in the village will find more value of life from this enjoyment.
All products of Beaubnana's are designed by Banana and then crocheted by the aunties of Beaubnana Women's Team, one by one by hand.
The aunties are paid by the piece. The faster ones earn no less than five to six thousand yuan a month. Each auntie signs her crochet works, promoting their "debut." This has earned them many likes and thanks on the internet. Many of the aunties in the team have their own fans, and there are often people leaving comments specifically requesting the handmade works of certain aunties.
With this business, the aunties in the village not only make money through their handicrafts but also receive the love of fans from all over the country. This is a very delightful and meaningful thing for them. The brand has also showcased the story of the Beaubnana Women's Team in art exhibitions, displaying the power of femininity through the warmth of their hands to the public.
